Nothing in Life is FREE
It has been a while since I have posted and the fact of the matter is that I have been in the middle of taking a very important comprehensive test. This comprehensive test is over 1.5 years worth of graduate school amterial and i am only given a couple of weeks with it, so the lions share of my day the past few weeks have been in preperation and now the execution of my task.
But enough about that, yall dont come here to read about that. Today is obviously Martin Luther King day. Instead of making the cheap plug anf talking about what a great day it is, I want to utilize one of his lessons in another way. King spoke nd with that in mind, I will returabout cost and the price one had to pay to attain certain things. When asked about any possible retribution that might come his way, he responded that everything has a cost and the price of freedom was worth the cost of his life. He knew that he might have to pay for the freedom of others with his life.
Abraham Lincoln knew the same thing. When the war started he knew that a heavy price would be neccesary to pay to preserve the union. Many lives were sacrificed to achieve his main objective: preservation of the union. As the war dragged on, his initial assesment changed and his inital goals became very different from the outset. He would pay for others freedoms with his own life.
And today it saddens me that people do not understand that nothing is free. There are many people that simply think that they can sit down and expect entitlements to come their way. They believe that they do not need to work hard and that they can utilize
"free money". The fact is there IS NO FREE MONEY. That money is collected as part of the taxes that other citizens have to pay. The money that the government collects is not produced byt he government but by the sweat and sacrifice of the American citizen.
Now, there is nothing wrong with government programs. SOme of them are quite useful and neccesary for some people. The problem exists when people refuse to try to work hard and carve out a niche for themselves within society. Instead they choose to continue to live off the toils of others. People who choose to refuse to seek employment and choose to live off the backs of others are working against the very notions that MLK aspired.
So on this day, this day dedicated to a great American, do not slack off, but work that much harder. MLK was a man who chose to say that there were problems in the world then did worthwhile things to change it. So take the MLK challenge and work hard today to better yourself. Run a mile, read a book, or help your fellow man. THAT is what Martin Luther King stood for. Afterall, nothing is free everything has a price...including comprehensive exams.
